Software - Technical Requirements
The following provides a general overview of system requirements and
compatibility information related to the "on-premise" installation and use of the LSSe64
system. Hardware requirements will vary based on a number of factors unique to
each law firm, such as the number of concurrent users, database size, workload,
etc.
If you subscribe to one of our hosted solutions, we'll be delivering LSSe64 from
our servers, so many of these requirements would not apply.
LSSe64 natively supports both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, and includes
installation files with add-ins for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft
Office. The Microsoft .NET Framework version 4 or newer is required to
operate LSSe64, and is available for download from Microsoft free of charge.
LSSe64 has been thoroughly tested and is fully supported with virtualized environments.
For specific recommendations and requirements, please contact LSS directly to
discuss your unique business needs.
Database
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (or newer) Standard
Edition.
LSSe64 also works with the older Microsoft SQL 2008R2, but since the 2008R2
version of SQL is no longer supported by Microsoft, it is not recommended for
new installations of LSSe64.
The free "Express" edition of Microsoft SQL Server is not suitable for use with
LSSe64. Firms must purchase and install the "Standard" edition.
LSSe64 doesn't necessarily require a dedicated SQL installation. In many cases,
a single Microsoft SQL instance may also support other applications in addition
to LSSe64.
For full text indexing of file attachments and document management content,
certain iFilter packs from Microsoft and Adobe must be installed on the SQL
Server. iFilter packs from Microsoft and Adobe are available for download, free
of charge, from their respective websites.

Server
Microsoft Server 2012 (or newer) Standard or Enterprise.
LSSe64 also works with the older Microsoft Server 2008R2, but since the 2008R2
version of Windows Server is no longer supported by Microsoft, it is not
recommended for new installations of LSSe64.
A supported version of Microsoft SQL Server must be installed with the latest
service packs and cumulative updates. An LSS technical support specialist can
provide specific information regarding the required SQL installation options
such as reporting services, full-text indexing, etc.
The server must have a minimum of 4 CPU cores. Additional cores may be
recommended for large firms, firms with unusually high workload demands, or
installations supporting multiple "SQL-based" applications concurrently.
The amount of server RAM that is required will vary greatly from one firm to the
next. In general, a minimum of 8GB of RAM is required for smaller firms or
firms with low workload demands. 16GB to 32GB of RAM is generally recommended
for typical installations. Larger firms or firms with very high workload
demands may require 64GB or RAM.
Database storage requirements (both the amount of storage and the performance of
storage systems) can vary greatly from one firm to the next. Contact LSS for
more information regarding database storage recommendations appropriate for your
firm's specific needs.

Workstations
Microsoft Windows 10/11 Professional (32-bit or 64-bit).
LSSe64 also works with older Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating
systems, but Windows 10 or 11 is recommended.
LSSe64 is not supported with "Home" editions of Microsoft Windows.
Workstations must be joined to an Active Directory domain.
Workstations must have at least one monitor with a minimum display resolution of
1280 x 1024 (or equivalent). Dual widescreen monitors are recommended.
Keyboard, Mouse and 250MB of local disk storage.
It is recommended that the network connection between workstations and the
server be a physical "cabled" 1Gb connection.
